Project description

The TANGO-W project is developing urban transformative capacity (UTC) as a novel governance capability at the interface of food, energy, and water. UTC refers to the collective capacity of all actors in an urban innovation ecosystem to conceptualize, prepare, initiate, and execute transformative change at the social, organizational, and ecosystem levels, enabling sustainable future development.

To this end, the project has the following objectives:

OBJECTIVE 1: Capacity building of urban stakeholders has occurred.

OJECTIVE 2: At the urban level, TANGO-W designs and implements Urban Living Labs 2.0 (ULL).

OBJECTIVE 3: At the European level, a transdisciplinary Community of Practice (CoP) is established as an integra-tive and coordinating transformation system.

OBJECTIVE 4: Policy recommendations for replication and upscaling activities as well as training approaches and pilot courses that support capacity building in TANGO-W cities.

Both the urban and European levels are spaces for the development of UTC according to the needs of urban stakeholders in several dimensions (i.e., transformative governance formats, shaping new transformation roles; self-organization, technical skills and tools).

At the same time, both act as novel governance formats at the local and EU level to accelerate urban change in a desired, sustainable direction.
